Qurbani is the act of sacrificing an animal—usually a goat, sheep, cow, or camel—during the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha.
It commemorates the profound act of devotion shown by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ismail (AS), in obedience to Allah’s command. Before the sacrifice could take place, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram, signifying that it is the intention and devotion that matter most.
Qurbani is performed by Muslims around the world as a reflection of Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience and submission to Allah. It takes place after the Eid prayer on the 10th, 11th, and 12th days of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar.
